LOS ANGELES— Belgium production duo Electric Soulside once again digs deep into its diverse bag of musical tricks to sculpt an electro-disco banger with a dubby, dark underbelly for Potty Mouth Music. For its latest “Drop the Bass EP” (PMM044), brothers Patrick and Steve Hoody take audiences into glittery descent of electro-grooves that explode into a cohesive, peak-hour banger.

West coast dub maven’s Reid Speed & Dark Elixer lend precise production credentials to the EP, crafting murmuring basslines that ebb below the fat undercurrents of disco loops on their trap remix.

For Electric Soulside “Drop Bass EP” is a creative endeavor more than three years in the making. The Brussels-based brethren first crafted a version of the track in 2009, before revisiting it earlier this year with a fresh ear and intent to create a sound more relevant to today’s EDM sound.

“I remember that we started to work around this disco loop,” Steve Hoody recalls of their production process. “In the middle, we decided to work with this contrast of big and sharp basslines to create a musical foil of its own.”

Such gambles have paid off since their formation nearly five years earlier. From the start, the brothers have fused their interest in electro house, tech funk, nu disco, and breaks to defy sonic borders for underground and commercial EDM audiences alike. For the EP’s remix, Reid Speed & Dark Elixer’ dubstep roots find a home on the EP amid the funky wonk of an electro bassline that they manipulate with dark mutability.
“For the moment, we especially love breaks and electro-tech; but we respect all types of music, styles, and tempos that continue to influence us,” Steve Hoody has said of Electric Soulside’s sound. “Our objective always was to be inventive and not lock ourselves into one genre which would become uninspired and boring.”
Electric Soulside takes disco for a dark, devious turn on (PMM044). The EP is available now on Beatport and will be available on iTunes.
